The Da Vinci Code is a mystery/detective novel by American author Dan Brown, published in 2003. The novel has provoked popular interest in speculation concerning the Holy Grail legend and the role of Mary Magdalene in the history of Christianity. According to the premise of the novel, the Vatican
knows it is perpetuating a lie about Jesus' bloodline and the role of
women in church, but continues to do so to keep itself in power. The story also involves the Roman Catholic organization Opus Dei.
Angels & Demons is a mystery novel by Dan Brown too. Published in 2000, it introduces the character Robert Langdon, who is also the principal character of Brown's subsequent, better-known novel as above. The story involves a conflict between an ancient group, the Illuminati, and the Roman Catholic Church. The basic plot is a classic race against time to find a hidden bomb and hunt down a serial killer in Rome. Angels & Demons follows Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, as he tries to stop what seems to be the Illuminati, a legendary secret society, from destroying the Vatican City with the newly-discovered power of antimatter.
